Text and Data Mining Work at Virginia Tech University Libraries

Virginia Tech University Libraries have been providing Text and Data Mining (TDM) support within the recent years in multiple ways. TDM work has incorporated many individuals from faculty, students, and librarians, Through a panel of experts, this webinar will describe how TDM work and awareness was established in Virginia Tech’s University Libraries, how students were involved, and how faculty have been involved. The panel discussion will include projects related to the analysis of open access articles in health science, how to identify unique language descriptors from whiskey reviews, implementing TDM in digital humanities, and how the establishment of a committee supports TDM related activities within the library.

Mismatch Finder - Resolving Mismatches in Wikidata’s 100 Million Items

In 2023, Wikidata has more than 100 million data items. Even though the Wikidata community has grown rapidly over the past decade with many libraries linking and connecting to Wikidata, not many people know what to do when there are mismatches between their data and Wikidata’s. In this session, we will take a look at how Mismatch Finder plays an essential role for data re-users and how libraries can benefit from identifying these mismatches. The audience will also get to experience the power of Wikibase in other library Linked Open Data projects, with Wikidata sitting at the heart of the ecosystem.
